Concordia at Cabot was alive with community spirit during our 144th Summer Festival, held Sunday, July 27, under mostly sunny skies and with some brief showers. With more than 600 guests gathering in the Lund Care Center backyard, the day delivered on its promise of fun, fellowship and faith – a true celebration of Concordia’s mission.
Attendees of all ages enjoyed the classic features that make this event a favorite each year: a delicious picnic lunch, toe-tapping live music, a car cruise, kids’ activities, a worship service and more. A special thanks goes out to our incredible team of staff and volunteers, including the Knoch High School boys soccer team, who help this event run smoothly year after year!
This year’s musical entertainment, Chuck Blasko and The Vogues, brought a nostalgic flair to the afternoon with a lively performance that had guests dancing in the aisles. The car cruise featured more than 40 classic cars and tractors, and the picnic-themed fare from our talented food service team was a hit with guests of all ages.
Kids in attendance stayed busy and smiling with a mini fishing derby at the pond and a variety of activities at the pavilion, including crafts, games and a caricature artist. Each child also received a complimentary drink and food item – just one small way Concordia gives back to our visiting families.
Festivalgoers also had the chance to tour retirement living apartments during the Haven I Open House, with Concordia staff on hand to answer questions about the worry-free lifestyle our residents enjoy.
At 4 p.m., guests gathered under the tent for a traditional worship service led by Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod Eastern District President Rev. John Pingel. His message reflected on the blessings of community and how the promise of Jesus – like a true “Christmas in July” – is present and enduring throughout every season. Music was provided by the Pittsburgh Lutheran Chorus, whose voices helped bookend a beautiful service of praise and thanksgiving.
As the day came to a close, Concordia President and CEO Keith Frndak addressed the crowd, offering thanks to staff, volunteers, board members and community supporters. He emphasized the importance of their continued prayers and support as Concordia’s historic mission grows to serve even more people in need.
